Threats from increased urbanisation
Increasing urbanisation of Europe’s population threatens the sustainability of its cities. The ground beneath our cities has an important role to play in their sustainability, but appreciation by policy- and decision-makers of the importance of the subsurface lags somewhat behind other, above ground, urban considerations. There is a need to redress this imbalance. NAG-CITY is looking to address this through research, and by collaboration and knowledge exchange with decision-makers responsible for the planning and management of partner cities and municipalities.
In its first phase, NAG-CITY will work particularly with officials representing the cities of Oslo, Utrecht, Odense, Dublin, Glasgow and Hamburg and activities are expected to extend to other cities/municipalities (e.g. Bergen, Aarhus. Randstad (Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Utrecht), Cork and London).
